Home of the First Mayor of Cody

Frank Houx had this home built in 1897 and lived there until 1903. He was the first mayor of Cody, Secretary of State from 1910 to 1914, and acting Governor of Wyoming from 1917 to 1919.

On the day of William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody’s death, Houx telegraphed this note to Cody’s family:

Please accept the sincere sympathy of myself and family in the loss of your husband, brother and father and our dear old friend Colonel Cody. The last of the Great Scouts has indeed passed to the Beyond and the Nation, State of Wyoming and Town of Cody in particular has lost an enterprising citizen and true friend.
